notes | sillage is how close a perfume stays to your skin; perfume with light sillage does not leave much trace in the air. also, not to be confused with silage (sy-ladzh), which is a type of cow food.
I’ve come to realise it’s no use getting too attached to things I like to read or watch, because once touched by collective standards, even the ‘purest’ forms of aesthetics more often than not try to please as many as they can, in the expense of substance. I’m not one of those angry fans (or snobs, for that matter) though, I’m actually quite OK with that … except things get very dull, very fast; so it’s always nice to have something fresh to read or watch, before they, too, lose that magic. It makes me think people with one great book, one great song, one great work of art in their lifetimes might had tried very, very hard to recreate that genius, only to fall short of their very high standards and finally deciding to not insult themselves by allowing what they considered sub-standard work to enter the market anyway. So maybe they weren’t all flukes, as everyone liked to imagine. Maybe they were just very earnest people, who were hard on themselves.
